The Genetic Code of God

She sat with her head tilted down, her long, dark bangs falling across her face. Eyes closed, she pondered where life had taken her. Such a dark road was behind her. Each day had been a struggle simply to get out of bed, to want to face the world. Here she was, finally an adult and on her own, away from much of the misery which had plagued her life, yet things were not much better. Now the memories haunted her. She still had to face each day, the engulfing darkness, the pain and sorrows.

Yet with all the darkness of the past, it seemed there had always been some light, coming from somewhere, something. A light which had kept her going through it all. She had hoped for something better. That had been what gave her courage to step outside each morning. Listening to others, she knew they each had pains of their own. Maybe not to the extent that hers had been, but still very real and life changing. Everyone's struggles were different. She wanted to help others, to lift their burdens, to help others have peace and happiness. The only problem was she had to find such happiness within herself first.

Wondering, she opened her eyes and tilted her head upwards, staring at the starlit sky. Where was her happiness? Where was the peace she had been seeking? Or the joy she longed for? The night sky seemed to beckon her, calling that it held the answers if only she looked a little harder. Staring at the grandeur of the Milky Way, awe began to fill her soul. So small. She was so incredibly small. Nothing more than a speck on a tiny planet in a small solar system on the edge of a galaxy which was only one of millions or even billions, filling up an entire universe.

Still staring up at the sky, she brushed her bangs out of her eyes. In doing so, the light reflecting off her ring caught her eye. Pulling her hands down in front of her face, she examined them. So much detail was on a simple finger alone that her identity could be tracked. Out of billions of people who were on the planet and had ever walked the earth, her fingerprint was the only one like it that had ever existed. Thinking even smaller, one skin cell held her entire genetic code. Something so incredibly small could link her to where she had been, the illnesses she was prone to, her hair color, eye color, how tall she was, and even some of her personality traits. All contained in a singe cell only visible with a microscope.

Quickly she looked back up at the sky, an idea filling her heart. Maybe she was like the small cell, a tiny piece of something so much larger. Yet in her was information to the defining characteristics of the universe. She was so incredibly small, yet if a skin cell could hold her identity, could she not also hold vital truths? Was she not part of the makeup of the universe? Maybe she wasn't so small and worthless after all, she thought as she once more looked at her hand.

Slowly, ever so slowly, she looked around her, realizing that it was more than just the sorrows of the past that linked her to those around her. Together, as a human race, as compounds of particles, chemicals, and atoms, they formed the fingerprint of the universe, the genetic code of all existence. In each and every one of them was the link to their true identity.

Once more she looked up at the star filled sky and she smiled. It didn't matter what anyone else thought, she finally understood. She was a piece of something far grander then the human mind could fathom. Her smile broadened The tiniest particles which combined to form an atom were proof of her identity just as she was proof of His. Joy raced through her system such as she had never before felt. She was a creation of the Master, and within her body was his fingerprint, his genetic code, his stamp of approval. He had created her and loved her. She was a child of God and knowing so, she finally had the peace she had only hoped was possible.
